The Princess Fritter: I Love Chewing Gum

Oh another hot day in the city. Tonight has already cooled down considerably so I sense the end of the heat is upon us. Mixed feelings.

Went to that show at Slim's last night. It actually wasn't too bad. When I first got there there were maybe 50 people tops. I feared that it would stay that way. But by the second act and definitely by the third the place was actually pretty jumpin--for a monday night. Really don't know if any of that was the fruit of my/our labor or just family, friends and friends of friends, but I'm just gonna pretend like some of the work paid off. The bands were decent and Lisa and Kristin came out so all in all it wasn't too terrible.

I took my dog to the park today, as per usual, and today we were met yet again with 40+ 12 and under kinds playing soccer. Or practicing to play soccer. It was a little early so there weren't too many dogs out, but there were some. It's weird to now be a part of this doggie park social scene where you know the dogs by name but don't know the owners. Or for me, dogs whose names I don't know I just refer to by breed. It's also weird to see other dog owners without my dog and have them still say hi. (Shout out to Rosco's owner.) And the weirdest, quirkiest thing for me is wanting to meet other dogs. Not other dog owners (although some of that too sometimes) but other dogs. Like I walk around with my dog and I check out all the big dogs and get big dog envy. And it's crazy to see the Great Danes and St. Bernards whose heads are as big as my entire dog. Today's dog of choice was a little boxer who I had my eye on the other day. Thanks to my dog and his slow little waddle I couldn't get close enough to really check it out but it looked small. Probably not even a year yet. And its owner.. well.. he didn't look so old or so bad either. But nope, my dog didn't lead me to him. Instead he chose to lead me to the trio of middle-aged men who were waiting to pick up their kids who decided that between watching their kids and petting my dog they would also check out my boobs. I won't get into it but let me just say this: before all you guys turn into dirty old men, learn to be subtle!

Lisa and I had crazy flashback night tonight. We hit up Tart for some mango sorbet freeze (after last night's failed attempt) and then watched "Here on Earth." Oh Joshy Hartnett.. so hot. Hotnett. He could kick Chris Klien's ass any day. And if that weren't enough, we then moved on to a few minutes of Backstreet Boys All Access. Yes, I have that, and yes, she wanted to watch it. Ahh good old Nick and his treatments. I can't believe we used to like that so much. I think tomorrow will be Nsync in the Mix.. if I can wait til tomorrow.

Can someone please tell me how I get mosquito bites in places that are clothed??

After reading a few blogs tonight I was all set to write about Elliot Smith. About his music and this phase I went through and how as much I love "Miss Misery" it's really "Say Yes" that gets me and all sorts of other quasi-thought provoking things.....

That was until I read someone else's blog who happened to quote mine. They were bugged by the fact that "every now and then I plan my blogs in advance" (see previous entry.) The fact that they were bothered bothered me. So look anonymous person, sorry you're so much cooler than me because you have profound topics that you feel you need to "tackle" and write epic blogs about so that the whole world knows your thoughts. Sorry we can't all be as sensitive and have to write about our weird dreams and things we did over the weekend that turned out to be enormously symbolic once we got home and analyzed it while we were blogging about it, even though we had already planned the blog long before and had actually realized everything hours ago while on our way home in some tv-esque dream-like state. And sorry you missed my point entirely about looking forward to things that will never come. I sort of figured if anyone you would understand that... But no... Geez... We can't all be as whiney as you, Sam! Oh crap. I've said too much.

So yeah... Uh.. I haven't blogged in three weeks. What have I been doing... hmm.. I started my internship finally. Yeah, after a two week love affair with my boss's voicemail I finally started working. It's cool. Not really hard stuff but it's all good. I do, however, need a job that will pay me in something other than cds. As cool as it is to get free cds, they aren't an acceptable currency everywhere.

Did some major damage shopping today. Luckily for me it was all vicarious and very little of my own money was spent. Let me just say that a certain someone was big baller, definitely shot caller. Bought a few things of my own too. My $48, however, was a mere fraction--and a small fraction at that--of someone else's ~$900. That's some sweet sweet spendin right there.

As always I've been watching a lot of tv. Big sigh. Lately there's been a surge in foreign films (by surge I mean two) and I love the 80s Strikes back. How much do we love that show!! Michael Ian Black's dry, sarcastic wit is just a little bit sexy... uh huh..

That's really all I've got to say right now since I didn't plan this blog out and the only reason I really decided to blog at all was because I hadn't done it in a while. I will say this last thing though.

One of the lame classes I'm in is putting on a show this monday night.
FREE SHOW @ SLIM'S featuring some local rock bands.
OCT. 27th, 8pm. All ages. FREE FREE FREE.
It was my class's job to publicize it so here I am. It should be pretty decent, and if it's not, well it's free. But if you're in or around the city and lookin for something to do, GO! If I see you there I just might buy you a drink.. or at least say thanks for coming.
So again...

FREE SHOW!!! OCT. 27TH 8PM @ SLIM'S, 333 11TH.

Every now and then I plan my blogs in advance. Or, well, I'll think about things I'd like to blog about and very likely will. A few days ago I thought about how I was going to blog about Giants Fever in the air and a certain amount of buzz and electricity in the city because the Giants are in the World Series. I was going to write about how different it was to actually be here and be around it and feel it at strange times in random places. How I could only imagine that this is what it must've been like last year when all I could do was watch from San Diego and wish I was here to experience it all, but now here I am and I'm getting to see the Giants and baseball in October bring the city alive. And how, in my own little way, I'm a part of all of it.

But that's not going to happen. I will not rehash the gory details of today's game or yesterday's game, but I will say this. I'm sad. Sad that the season is over. Sad that in ended in an away game. Sad that I didn't get to go to any games this season. Sad that for all the Giants did this season, this loss is what will be remembered last.

Just after the game ended my mom called me and told me I could start rooting for A's now. No offense A's but I don't want to root for you. I will because you are, after all, a bay area team and you've never really done anything to offend me personally, but if I had it my way I'd still be cheering for Giants. There is still next season and the one after that and the endless seasons to follow, but I just really wanted it to happen this season. I wanted (as I'm sure most of the city, the Giants organization, and Giants fans everywhere did) this season to be vindication for last year's crappy World Series fiasco. It would've been nice. Oh well, I've got til next spring to lament all this. I guess now it's time to switch sports modes. Tomorrow it's the Niners, soon the Kings and the Spurs. And before I know it, it'll be time to get behind the Giants again. In the end, I guess the only thing to really say is I (heart) the Giants.
